The design of this sterling silver piece, although, technically speaking, fashioned after the classical Dine’ (Navajo) wrist-watch ban d, is inspired by the traditional, asymmetrical flower and leaf motifs that in the nineteenth century adorned clothes and utensils of the Native Peoples that lived in the Great Lakes area - often in the form of glass beads sewn onto black velvet or velveteen and onto tanned deer hide.
The floral-design “climbing plant” ornamentation on this s terling silver wrist-watch band relates to an old Ojibwe aadizookaan (sacred story) of how the Anishinaabeg learned the art of Healing and how the gift of Health and Long Life was restored to them.
