Symbols of love, vision and strength
In the tradition of the jeweler's Native ancestors, the Ojibwe Anishinaabeg from the North American Great Lakes area, animals were teachers carrying lessons of bimaadiziwin - how we might live productive and wholesome lives. To the ancestors, they were silent metaphors for the qualities and virtues that humans ought to emulate or for which they should strive for.
Omishoomisimaa Migizi, the white-headed eagle grandfather, known for his vision, strength, and courage, represented the teaching of Zaagi'idiwin (Love). To feel true zaagi'idiwin was to know and love Gichi-manidoo (the Great Mystery) because the very breath of Gichi-manidoo was considered the giver of human life. It was through love of oneself that love for the Great Mystery of Life was expressed. The ancestors knew that since Migizi flies high above the earth he is closer to the Great Mystery than any other creature.
Love is the most elusive of all virtues and no other creature is so elusive as the mighty Migizi, and love has the same light and airy nature as his feathers...
